How we use your personal information
The University of Cambridge uses your personal information to send you emails about news and/or events in line with your subscription(s). Your name and email address are used with your permission and only to send you information that you have requested. You can withdraw your consent at any time.
We use a third-party provider, Dotdigital EMEA Ltd, to send our emails. We share your name, email address, information about your affiliation to the University (where applicable) and details of your subscriptions with Dotdigital EMEA Ltd. We gather statistics about email opens and clicks using industry-standard technologies, including clear gifs, to help us monitor what content is popular and to improve the content of our emails. For more information, please see Dotdigital’s privacy notice.
Your data is held in the European Economic Area. Where we need to transfer your data outside of the United Kingdom, those transfers are protected either by 'adequacy regulations' issued by the UK Government (declaring the recipient country as a 'safe' territory for personal data) or by standard contractual clauses issued by the UK Information Commissioner's Office (which give obligations for the recipient to safeguard the data).
We are committed to protecting your personal information and being transparent about what information we hold. For further details about how your information is used, how we maintain the security of your information and your rights under data protection law, please read our general data protection statement.
Personalising emails that we send you
Should you consent to the use of Personalisation Settings cookies when visiting our alumni or philanthropy websites, receive University alumni communications by email and click through from one of those mailings to either the alumni.cam.ac.uk or philanthropy.cam.ac.uk websites, we can recognise tracked behaviours that took place within the last 30 days as belonging to you. If web browsing behaviour is identified as belonging to a person who receives email marketing from us, we retain that information for 365 days from the last time the person was identified. We use this information to improve the relevance of our emails to you. For example, we may send you a reminder about an event if you view details about that event on our website but have not booked to attend when the booking deadline is approaching. For details of the cookies used, please see our cookies page.
